Why recognition matters at work
Recognition isn't about big bonuses or annual awards. It's about seeing people — and saying so out loud. Here's why it works, and how to make it part of an ordinary week.
Why recognition works
When colleagues feel seen, they become more engaged, more generous with their time, and far more likely to stay. Recognition is one of the cheapest — and most overlooked — ways to build a workplace people actually enjoy.
What makes recognition meaningful
- It's specific. Name exactly what the person did.
- It's timely. Say it while the moment is still fresh.
- It's genuine. Skip the template — use your own words.
- It's public when that fits, and private when that fits better.
How to start today
Think of one colleague who made a difference for you this week. Write it down. Tell them — or, if you'd rather stay out of the spotlight, let SPITO say it for you.
